Pembrey

Pembrey
A year has passed since the last race at Pembrey yet it only seems like a few months has passed since we were there. Last year’s weather was literally scorching; all drivers in every formula were sweltering in the assembly area. In the races everybody was sweating profusely and every driver of every race was glad to be out of their cars at the end of the race. The weather could possibly be the same this year so therefore engines will be pushed hard, in the heat air-cooled engines tend to suffer more than liquid cooled ones. This can mean that the Vee championship can be lost or won quite simply due to two or three hot days in the year. Although as previously stated the weather could be very hot this year, there have been a lot of wet days in the south of Wales leading up to our weekend. This means far better reliability for our power plants but many more excursions off track. Pembrey has always had crashes in the wet, especially at the Hatchets hairpin. The final corner (Honda) is a quick exit with a long start/finish straight, Hatchets is the tightest turn of any circuit we visit. The very nature of the last and first turns leads to exciting racing in any formula let alone Formula Vee, in the past two of our drivers (amongst others) have come to grief. A certain Mr Ough and last year John Hughes when he was hit from behind leading to ruptured oil cooler and loss of oil. Oil at Hatchets and a wet track are deadly here and are virtually certain of the red flags. Having said that Pembrey is certainly a fine circuit although devoid any camber or gradient, the front running cars will definitely be lapping several of the backmarkers well before the end of the race. As for our team we will be taking twelve drivers and supporting four more which is 42.1% of the thirty eight car grid. Amongst the returnee’s are Gordon Beshaw and one Alan Robinson making welcome appearance again, Paul Taylor will be looking make a better showing than his bitter-sweet Castle Combe outing. As we prepare for the weekend’s activity’s everything is bordering on manic at team AHS in order to be ready; for this race meeting young Jack will be making an appearance just to get the “feel “ of a race weekend. Here’s wishing you all a good weekend of motor sport action.
