Lydden Race
12/04/2007

Lydden is our next race; it is also the smallest race track we race on this year. Lydden could almost be called a mini Brands Hatch as the track itself is shaped similarly to Brands. The last time Formula Vee raced there the day meeting was abandoned, there was only one session that did not have a red flag and that was a practice session! Bill Burnett nearly won his first final but did not cover his inside line going into the hairpin and let Jez Clark through to take the win. This year will probably be not too different; there will undoubtedly be the usual casualties at Devils Elbow and the final corner. The Devils Elbow as they brake too late for the and skip across the small gravel trap into the tire wall; the final corner as they go wide on the exit and skip across the small gravel trap and into the tire wall. Lydden can throw up a few surprises in the results just by the very nature of the place as well as the fact that we do not test or race there that often; this is because of a mixture of the location (being so far away from many drivers). The club not going there very often, plus some people view the circuit (rightly or wrongly) as being a bit of a go-kart circuit. The facilities are not as enchanting as many other circuits, also the track is short and narrow with very little run-off areas between the track and the tire wall’s. With these things in mind the numbers will be slightly down compared to other venues with many midfield and further back runners not making the journey there. Having said that because of the nature of the circuit the racing can be very close and be extremely entertaining for the spectators. We do not have as many drivers as usual going to this meeting, although the usual championship contenders as well as the hardier will make the trip. There will undoubtedly be a fair few long faces on the way home, Lydden can be a long way to go just to bend your car and have an expensive repair bill. If it is raining ????????

It now appears we have ten AHS associated drivers out at this venue. Steve Ough, Steve Robbins, Ivan Turner, Ryan Lindsay, Glyn Davies, Neale Hurren,Paul Taylor and Stuart Feather, James Conyers and Derek Sales.
