Mallory Race
21/03/2007

Mixed fortunes for us.
As we thought Mallory sprung a few surprises for us. The day started well weather wise and stayed so; unfortunately the day did not go quite as well as we had hoped. Our top three qualifiers were in three rows all within 0.55 sec of each other. Alexander Sims qualified in 8th position on a 52.85; followed by Ryan Lindsay (9th) on 52.88 with Tim Hill (12th) on 53.40 sec. Tim’s grid slot was a very pleasant surprise indeed. Having never driven around Mallory ever, to put a Leastone in twelfth ahead of the likes of Wazza, James Birch, Tim Probert, John Stapleton, Steve Glasswell and John Hughes was mighty impressive. From then on for various reasons the day did not go as we had planned. In the heat Steve Ough only managed one lap; he went into the back of an early braking James Birch broke his reservoirs and completely lost his brakes and clutch. Stuart Feather and Richie Honnick both made it to the final sadly Andy Arber did not; just missing out by one place he would be first reserve for the final. Also making the final was the UK FVee 2007 first spinner Adrian Weston, Adrian started in 7th place for the heat and promptly spun to last first time into Gerrards. Number twenty then had to watch as everybody went off into the distance and left him in their mirrors. Adrian though put in a sterling drive and aided by eight retirements managed to claim the penultimate place on the grid for the final. The final saw Tim Hill’s wonderful debut come to an end; Tim hit the back end of James Birch’s car as did Steve Ough. Tim’s outcome was much more severe than Steve’s however, Tim was launched into the air and proceeded to roll his car virtually destroying it. James was out in an instant as well; the Mark Dunham run Sho Hanawa was caught up in the accident and pulled to a halt at the Devil’s Elbow with the right rear of his Sheane ruined. Vee champion Sam Oliveira blew his engine leaving Martin Farmer, Martin Galpin and Jake Oliveira to fight for the win; this was decided in Martin Galpin’s favour with Jake second and Martin Farmer third. Our top man was Ryan Lindsay who was suffering from understeer all day never managing to dial it out. With Alex [Sims] not having selected a gear at the start and getting swamped he could only recover to twelfth place, with Stuart Feather fourteenth, Adrian Weston fifteenth and Richie Honnick eighteenth the team as a whole did well. Tim and Adrian shining very well especially. The next round is Lydden a strange place at times, the last time we were there Viv the Clerk of the Course abandoned the whole day due to the amount of red flags. Hopefully our day will yield better results for us on our second race meeting of the year.
