Brands Hatch - AH
22/06/2006
16/6/06
Well well, when are we going to get our luck back? Testing was going well until Danny took to the gravel trap, picked up a stone and broke the engine. A very late night followed and a replacement engine was collected from the workshop here in Leicester, taken back to Brands and fitted. On the Saturday in the final, all went very well for Danny until the last lap when the fuel tank non-return valve sucked up a bit of paper, vacuumed the tank and starved the engine of fuel. Poor John Hughes had a broken exhaust which put him off the pace and a 6th place was the best he could get. (This time the fault was down to me and the team - we are so very sorry to have spoilt your day).
Sunday arrived and all was set for a better day. This time it was John’s day at the front, but yet again bad luck played its hand and Ian Buxton made a move on John that went a little wrong and ended up with the pair of them not finishing the race and a red flag finish. John Bennett in the Venom was involved with the incident at Paddock Hill and lost his steering while Chris Mather had an hole in his oil cooler and lost his engine on the Saturday. The spare was fitted overnight and he managed to race on the Sunday. Adrian “the cake” fell foul of a black storm and had front wheel problems from then onwards. We had a hotel booked in Sevenoaks which you would not keep a dog in so that led us to move to Gravesend for the night. I could go on but I am feeling depressed again.
Its all steam ahead now for Cadwell. Let’s hope its a good one.
